PHS Island City Lunch Club

Did you know? 

Mrs. Burley has a lunch program, called the Island City Lunch Club, for students who want to get to know each other better. Bi-monthly, a small group of students, eat lunch together in the assistant principal's office and talk about everything from daily life, to school life, to what do you like to do for fun. To sign up, just see Mrs. Tyria in the front office and tell her your favorite fast food restaurant. On the lunch club day, Mrs. Burley will by you lunch!

Darlene Kohn one of 6 inducted to the PHS Hall of Fame


There were six new members inducted to the Plainwell High School  Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Oct. 12. The inductees included Bill Carpenter, teacher Darlene Kohn, athlete Kristie Manning, teacher/coach Irv Figel, athlete John Streidl, and athlete Bill Astle.

PHS Band

Congratulations to the PHS Trojan Marching Band on their straight First Division Ratings and all As at MSBOA District XI Marching Band Festival at Kalamazoo Central HS!
The PHS Trojan Marching Band also took 2nd Place at the Grandville Band Invitational on Saturday in Class B competition. The band also won Best Color Guard and Awards of Excellence in Music, Marching, Percussion, and Color Guard. The band was 4th out of 15 bands for the day beating 4 Class A Bands and placing 1.3 out of the Grand Champion placement!

Ashley Correa

Ashley C. has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist.  She is the first NMS Semi-Finalist in 3 years for Plainwell High School.  Less than 3% of the students who take the PSAT earn this distinction.  Congratulations Ashley.  Brandon K. was also named as a Commended Student.

Girls Golf



Congratulations to the Girls Golf team for taking 9th in the State this Saturday.  Individually, Hanna Lewis placed 2nd. 

Seniors Win



The Senior Girls won the Powder Puff game last night by a score of 18-0.  It was a great evening followed by the bonfire.  The Homecoming Parade is this Friday and will start at 1:30 from the back of the school.    Come out and support the Trojans.

Forever Changed

Tom Melin visited PHS on Friday, September 30 to tell his story of the dangers of drunk driving.  Tom became a paraplegic at the age of 26.  Forever Changed was created in hopes of saving lives.  Over 100 students visited him throughout the day and the entire school saw his documentary Forever Changed
His story uses real life experience to demonstrate the devastating consequences of drinking and driving.

Lauren Saar



Plainwell Community Schools is pleased to announce that Lauren Saar has been named a finalist for the 2011 Miss Volleyball Award.
Saar, a senior at Plainwell High School, has led her team to three consecutive conference titles as well as a district title as a junior. She recorded 642 kills and 558 digs with a serving percentage of 98.2%. She carries a 4.06 grade-point average and has committed to play volleyball at Georgetown University.
The winner will be announced Monday, November 14, the day before the state quarterfinals.

PHS Band



The Plainwell High School Trojan Marching Band took home both the 1st Place trophy and a Best Music award from the Otsego Band Invitational held Saturday, September 24 as part of Otsego’s Creative Arts Festival.

Lady Trojans Conference Champs Again!

Yesterday at Lake Cora Hills Golf Course in Paw Paw, the Lady Trojans fought through cold and rainy conditions to defend their conference title from a year ago. The team finished 1st overall in the conference and won the conference tournament with a phenomenal  score of 356. The Lady Trojans finished 25 strokes ahead of the 2nd place team. Hannah Lewis was the medalist for the 2nd straight year with a 3 over par 75.  Darby Wagner and Erika Havenaar both tied for 7th with a score of 92.  Senior Hadley Harrison set a personal record with a score of 97.  Andersen Cole finished with 105.  The outstanding player of the year award went to Hannah Lewis for the second straight season.  Other all-conference golfers included Erika Havenaar, who finished 8th overall in the individual conference standings, and Darby Wagner who finished 10th overall.  Hadley Harrison received Honorable Mention All-Conference Honors.  The Lady Trojans will play their regional tournament at Binder Park Golf Course next Thursday.
