Career Fair - Volunteers Needed
Dear Parents and
Community Members:
The Plainwell High
School Guidance Department would like to invite you to participate as a
presenter in our upcoming Career Fair scheduled for February 20 from 9:30 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m. We are excited to offer this event to our high school
students so they may gather information on career fields. Many students are aware of the
"jobs" they see around them every day, but are not aware of all the
career opportunities available.
The career fair will be in "vendor
format" with tables set around the room for you to occupy and provide
information. Students will attend
by classroom or during their lunch times and be able to stop and talk with the
various people representing career fields. Below are
sample questions students may ask:
- What is your career area?
- What type of work do you do?
- What was involved in preparing/training for your career? Apprenticeship? Certification? Degree?
- What interest & skills areas are good matches for the work you do?
- What is a typical day like for you? -- Are you alone? With People? Is there travel?
- What equipment or tools do you use?
- What continuing education or training have you had to do to stay current?
- What are some possible career paths for someone with your education and training; i.e., what else could you do and where can you grow?
- What’s the employment outlook for your career? Will it continue to be a demand occupation?
- What is the general wage range for this occupation? What types of benefits might someone expect in this occupation?
- Are there professional organizations associated with this occupation?
- What schools offer education or training programs for your career area?
Sincerely,
PHS Guidance Department

Captain's Council
Five Plainwell High School Captains Council members recently attended the MHSAA Sportsmanship Summit that was held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo. Over 300 students from around west Michigan attended. Sportsmanship statements to be used in school programs and read prior to contests were developed by the student-athletes along with ideas for the annual Battle of the Fans contest among all Michigan high school student cheering sections.
Pictured are the Plainwell student-athletes who attended:
